In our country, women’s sexual health is still far from being regarded as an integral part of women’s overall health. Moreover, even among us—who, as specialists, are the ones most familiar with female sexual anatomy and physiology—knowledge and training in this area remain insufficient. This has distanced us from scientific advances and hindered the production of adequate scientific publications on sexuality, which continues to be perceived as a taboo.

By contrast, sexual health and sexual medicine are approached in a multidisciplinary manner worldwide, with gynecologists considered a key component of this team. From this perspective, it is important that gynecologists today have sufficient authority and expertise regarding female sexual health and sexual dysfunctions and that they contribute to the literature. Accordingly, contributing to both the national and international literature, ensuring that the public has access to accurate information, and developing sexual education and awareness programs tailored to all segments of society are among the goals of the sexual medicine subgroup.
